9 DAYS WALKING / 10 OVERNIGHT STAYS

The West Highland Way should only be tackled if you are a fit walker with well worn in boots and this itinerary allows you a more leisurely walk meaning that the longest day you will trek is 15 miles/24 km. This is an ideal option if you want to take an easy pace and soak up the scenery

Day 1

Travel to Milngavie With good public transport links, you arrive into the lowland town of Milngavie ready to start your challenge!

Day 2

Milngavie to Drymen

(12 miles/19.25 km)

An easy start to your trek heading off through the beautiful Mugdock Country Park, then great views of the hill of Dumgoyne. A visit to the Glengoyne Distillery is a good option or a stop at the Beechtree Inn for lunch! A pleasant day to start off your trek

Day 3

Drymen to Balmaha

(6.5 miles/10.5 km)

A short days walking but with a steep climb over Conic Hill before you descend down into the picturesque village of Balmaha

Day 4

Balmaha to Rowardennan

(7.5 miles/12 km)

A series of lovely woodland paths give delightful walking as you parallel Loch Lomond for most of the way into the tiny village of Rowardennan famous for its proximity to the Munro Ben Lomond

Day 5

Rowardennan to Inverarnan
(14 miles/22.5 km)
A reasonably challenging day with fabulous views across to the Arrochar Alps as you pass through the tiny and remote village of Inversnaid. A few ups and downs and easy scrambles sees you on your way to Inverarnan situated at the head of Loch Lomond

Day 6

Inverarnan to Tyndrum

(13.25 miles/21.25 km)

A good section of path after leaving Inverarnan as you follow the River Falloch. You pass under the famous West Highland Railway line and an easy accent takes you past Crianlarich. Then onto Tyndrum with stunning views of the Munros Ben More and Stob Binnein

Day 7

Tyndrum to Inveroran (9.25 miles/14.75 km) As you leave Tyndrum you gently climb towards Bridge of Orchy. Keeping pace with the railway line, look out for trains on the Kinglass viaduct. From Bridge of Orchy a short steep climb over the hill to descend into the remote stage of Inveroran

Day 8

Inveroran to Kingshouse

(9.5 miles/15 km)

You then follow Thomas Telford’s military road over Rannoch Moor and onto the stage of Kingshouse. As you cross the Moor you are in wonderful wilderness

Day 9

Kingshouse to Kinlochleven

(9 miles/14.5 km)

The famous Buachaille Etive Mor mountain is in fine view all the way from Kingshouse to the foot of the Devil’s Staircase. Fantastic views await you at the top before you start a steep descent into Kinlochleven on a very good footpath then track

Day 10

Kinlochleven to Fort William

(15 miles/24 km)

The steep climb out of Kinlochleven is made worthwhile by the views at the top of the hill. A remote walk winds its way across country until you start to see the imposing figure of Ben Nevis as you make your approach to Fort William and the end of your trek on the West Highland Way!

Extra Nights/Rest Days: many people take an extra night at the stage of Rowardennan to climb Ben Lomond (Scotland’s most southerly Munro), an extra night at Tyndrum to visit the Highland town of Oban by rail and/or at Fort William to climb Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain

Price of Package: £870.00 pp (based on two persons sharing)

Note regarding the stage at Inveroran: If the Inveroran Hotel is full and has to be replaced by the Bridge of Orchy Hotel (only establishments at these two stages) then there will be an additional £10.00 to £20.00 per person or more depending on the rooms available at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel (note that we will fully discuss with you and offer you options)

Also, the single supplement will be variable with regard to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, again depending on the rooms available (note that we will fully discuss with you and offer you options).

Notes:

Additional nights can be arranged at any stage, please email for a price. Generally an additional overnight stay in Fort William can range from £50.00 to £75.00 per person

Single supplement for solo walkers is £55.00 per night

Single supplement for singles as part of a group is £50.00 per night

Please note that, upon the actual booking of rooms, we will do our very best to try and reduce the single or solo walkers’ supplement. This will be dependent on availability of rooms at the time of booking
