5 Days Walking / 6 Overnight Stays
If you are extremely fit and an experienced walker, then you may wish to take on the challenge of a five day walk. Having walked the trail in five days ourselves we can certainly provide testimony to it being achievable, however, it is a challenge especially in adverse weather conditions. You certainly sense a feeling of real achievement when you reach the end of Fort William’s pedestrian precinct at “Sore Feet!” Well worn boots essential!!
Day 1 |
Travel to Milngavie | With good public transport links, you arrive into the lowland town of Milngavie ready to start your challenge! |
Day 2 |
Milngavie to Balmaha (18.5 miles/29.75 km) |
An easy start through the beautiful Mugdock Country Park, then great views of the hill of Dumgoyne. After bypassing the village of Drymen you soon reach the highest climb of the day over Conic Hill. Fine views down to Loch Lomond as you descend into the picturesque village of Balmaha |
Day 3 |
Balmaha to Inverarnan (21.5 miles/34.5 km) |
A tough day with much ascent and descent but worth the hard work as you skirt the shores of the beautiful Loch Lomond. Views across to the Arrochar Alps make it all worthwhile as you pass by the tiny and remote village of Inversnaid and then on to Inverarnan |
Day 4 |
Inverarnan to Inveroran (22.5 miles/36 km) |
Another challenging day but the viewpoint after you reach the spur path to Crianlarich is worth every minute! After passing Strathfillan you have an easy stretch to Bridge of Orchy and then the final swift climb over the hill to the remote stage of Inveroran |

This day starts with Thomas Telford’s military road over Rannoch Moor and on to Kingshouse. Fantastic views await you and you will be glad of the descent into Kinlochleven! |
