7 DAYS WALKING / 8 OVERNIGHT STAYS

The West Highland Way should only be tackled if you are a fit walker with well worn in boots and this itinerary is our most popular choice with the longest day being 18.75 miles/30 km. From our decades of experience, well prepared walkers cope with this long day easily. Both Michelle & Julie have walked the Way in seven days over the last few years

Day 1

Travel to Milngavie With good public transport links, you arrive into the lowland town of Milngavie ready to start your challenge!

Day 2

Milngavie to Drymen

(12 miles/19.25 km)

An easy start to your seven days heading off through the beautiful Mugdock Country Park, then great views of the hill of Dumgoyne. A visit to the Glengoyne Distillery is a good option or a stop at the Beechtree Inn for lunch! A pleasant day to start off your trek

Day 3

Drymen to Rowardennan

(14 miles/22.5 km)

A reasonably tough day with much ascent and descent though definitely worth the hard work as you look down to beautiful Loch Lomond from Conic Hill. A series of lovely woodland paths give you glimpses of Ben Lomond and leads you on to the tiny village of Rowardennan

Day 4

Rowardennan to Inverarnan

(14 miles/22.5 km)

A reasonably challenging day with fabulous views across to the Arrochar Alps as you pass through the tiny and remote village of Inversnaid. A few ups and downs and easy scrambles sees you on your way to Inverarnan situated at the head of Loch Lomond

Day 5

Inverarnan to Tyndrum

(13.25 miles/21.25 km)

A good section of path after leaving Inverarnan as you follow the River Falloch. You pass under the famous West Highland Railway line and the viewpoint after you reach the spur path to Crianlarich is worth every minute! After passing through Strathfillan you have an easy stretch to take you into the Highland village of Tyndrum

Day 6

Tyndrum to Kingshouse

(18.75 miles/30 km)

This day starts with Thomas Telford’s military road over Rannoch Moor and on to Kingshouse. You then have fine views of the famous Buachaille Etive Mor mountain as you traverse the hillside to the foot of the Devil’s Staircase. Fantastic views await you and you will be glad of the descent into Kinlochleven!

Day 7

Kingshouse to Kinlochleven

(9 miles/14.5 km)

The famous Buachaille Etive Mor mountain is in fine view all the way from Kingshouse to the foot of the Devil’s Staircase. Fantastic views await you at the top before you face a steep descent into Kinlochleven on a very good footpath

Day 8

Kinlochleven to Fort William

(15 miles/24 km)
